Football season starts today and I’m pretty pumped! As you know, I love the New York Jets and am hoping to have some shimmer of hope this year. But I also love fantasy football and recently had my draft.
So, this post is all about reviewing my draft and seeing how you all grade it!
My fantasy football draft
So, last year I came in second place after losing in the Championship.
This meant that I drafted second to last in my 14 person league. It’s a snake draft so I also then got another pick 3 picks later. But then there was a big wait until my next one.
Anyway, here’s my draft:
As an aside, I need new ideas for a team name. Last year, the Jets had Sam Darnold as their quarterback. A call back to a Nickelodeon classic cartoon, Hey Arnold, was in order.
But now, Darnold is gone and I need a new name…
Anyway, I’ll offer a quick analysis of my picks
I always like to take a running back early on. But by the time my pick came around, there weren’t great options. Plus, I knew that I had Aaron Jones as a keeper which meant I would pick him up in the 9th round despite him being a top 5 running back.
So, I went wide receiver getting Deandre Hopkins and Calvin Ridley.
And I know the 3rd round is early for a quarterback. But I had Kyler Murray last year and he balled out. So, I know it’s a bias (don’t do this when investing!) but a run on QBs had started and I grabbed Murray.
After that, another WR as few solid RBs were available. I went for value over need with Julio Jones.
Then a TE as that herd was starting to thin out with Logan Thomas.
Then a rookie WR with high upside in Ja’Marr Chase and finally a RB, James Conner. I don’t necessarily expect a ton from him but just need a serviceable back.
Another rookie WR with upside, my keeper, and a couple back up RBs and TE and my draft was basically over. I had to pick the gratuitous defense and kicker even though I generally rotate these based on matchup throughout the year.
Give me a draft grade!
Yahoo Fantasy Sports gave me a B+ grade. But honestly their grades are horrible and never really reliable.
But I think I did pretty well…
So, tell me what you think and drop me a grade in the comments below!
